The test consists of subjecting the test samples to the double action of thermal radiation and hot gases from the surface to reduce the effects of flame propagation by means of a pilot flame to cause the ignition of the emitted gases.

The equipment is made up of a test sample system with an angle of 30º to the horizontal, an electric burner, a screen regulating the passage of fresh air, a rectangular steel wire test sample grid, a gas ignition system butane and an extraction hood that DOES NOT need to be running during the test but DO need to be turned on after completion to facilitate fume extraction.
